SRT vs VTT — which do you need?

SRT (SubRip): the oldest and most compatible subtitle format. Every desktop video editor accepts it. Simple structure: index, timestamp, text.

VTT (WebVTT): designed for HTML5 web video. Supports positioning, styling, and metadata cues that SRT cannot express. Use VTT when embedding subtitles into a web player; use SRT for everything else.

Both formats export with millisecond-accurate timestamps from Y/T_TRANSCRIPT. If your editor rejects one, try the other.

Import SRT into Adobe Premiere Pro

1. Open your project and go to File → Import.
2. Select the downloaded .srt file.
3. Drag it onto a caption track on the timeline.
4. Open the Captions panel to edit styling and burn in.

Import SRT into CapCut

1. In your project, click Text → Captions → Local caption.
2. Upload the .srt file.
3. CapCut splits it into individual caption clips on the timeline automatically.

Import SRT into DaVinci Resolve

1. Right-click the Media Pool → Import Subtitle.
2. Drag the subtitle clip onto a subtitle track above your video.
3. Style it in the Inspector panel.

Import SRT into Final Cut Pro

1. Go to File → Import → Captions.
2. Select the .srt file — Final Cut converts it to CEA-608 or iTT.
3. Edit inline on the caption track.
