YouTube transcripts β†’ ChatGPT_

ChatGPT can't watch videos, but it can read transcripts. Extract the text with Y/T_TRANSCRIPT, paste it into ChatGPT, and turn a 90-minute video into a summary, outline, or content pack in under a minute.

1. Extract the transcript

  1. Paste any YouTube URL into Y/T_TRANSCRIPT.
  2. Wait for the transcript to load β€” usually under a second.
  3. Click Copy plain text (timestamps stripped) for the cleanest ChatGPT input.

2. Prompt templates

Executive summary:

Summarize the transcript below in 5 bullet points, then give a 2-sentence TL;DR. TRANSCRIPT: [paste here]

Structured outline:

Turn this transcript into a hierarchical outline with H2/H3 headings and 1-line notes per section. TRANSCRIPT: [paste here]

Repurpose for social:

Write 3 outputs from this transcript: 1. A 6-tweet thread with a hook 2. A LinkedIn post (150 words, no emojis) 3. A YouTube description with timestamps TRANSCRIPT: [paste here]

3. Handling long videos

ChatGPT (GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, o1) handles 100K+ tokens β€” enough for a 3-hour podcast. If you hit a length limit:

  • Split the transcript in half and summarize each part.
  • Ask ChatGPT to merge the two summaries at the end.
  • Or use our built-in Summarizer β€” it chunks automatically.

4. Common use cases

  • Lecture notes: "Turn this into study notes with definitions and 5 practice questions."
  • Research: "List every claim in this transcript with the timestamp." (Keep timestamps in for this one.)
  • Meeting recaps: "Extract decisions, action items, and owners."
  • Content ideas: "What blog post could I write from this? Give 5 angles."
